An AI Agent That Replies on Reddit and X for a B2B Startup: What Ours Wrote Since October 13, and Why a Person Still Taps Reply

An AI agent that replies on Reddit and X for a B2B startup has three jobs: find the posts worth answering while people are still reading them, write a reply that answers the post and adds one thing the thread does not have yet, and hand the posting to a person, because X names browser automation as grounds for suspension and a new Reddit account that comments more than once a day reads as a bot whatever it says. Ours has run on X since October 13 and on Reddit since October 16. It has written 67 X replies, of which 57 were posted, and 17 Reddit comments, of which 9 were posted. The rest of this post is what it reads, what it refuses, what we changed three times, and what came back.

What GPT-6 Sol's search returns for this question

On the morning of November 1 we put the question through GPT-6 Sol's web search and kept the list: 33 results, none of them ours. Twelve were Reddit threads, among them "How do you guys automate X /twitter for growth in the b2b niche?" and "I tried replacing most of my Marketing with (4) AI Agents for my b2b SaaS". Eleven were product pages whose titles promise the whole loop, Surfio ("Your AI marketing agent for Reddit, HN, and X"), Replymer ("AI Agent That Finds Your Buyers and Replies for You"), ReplyDude ("An AI agent that replies for you on X and Instagram"), Prowlify, Mangos AI and the rest, and one was a GitHub repository for a Reddit and X auto-reply bot. We read the titles only. Every product title says the agent replies for you. Ours does not, and the reason is the first thing to settle before buying any of them.

How the two agents run

X repliesReddit comments
When it runsThree times a day, 08:00, 12:00 and 17:00 US Eastern, since October 22Once a day, late morning
What it readsThe last six hours of X through the API: two search queries a run from the lead lane, plus every reply people wrote to usThe hot listings of three of twelve subreddits, 60 posts each, with 3 to 150 comments and under 48 hours old; two days a week, the threads GPT-6 Sol's own searches keep returning
Who it looks forFounders describing a growth routine they run by hand: every post themselves, cold email every morning, no marketer yetThe same people, in r/SaaS, r/startups, r/EntrepreneurRideAlong, r/smallbusiness and eight more
The capFive replies to new posts a day, never more; three answers a day to people who replied to usOne comment a day while the account is new
What a reply isOne to three sentences, 240 characters or fewer, the thread's register, no link, no brand450 characters at most, no sentence over 30 words, no link, no brand
Who postsA person, from X's own share link with the text already typed; a row nobody taps is marked skipped after 8 hoursA person, who pastes it from the signed-in account; a row nobody pastes is marked skipped after 48 hours
The recordOne ledger row per reply, with the lane, the status and the impressions read back at two daysOne ledger row per comment, with the subreddit, the status and the score read back

The lane names matter more than the caps. Until October 27 the X agent also searched an "authority" lane, practitioners discussing AI search visibility, and most of the 28 replies in the week to October 23 landed under SEO and AEO consultants, agencies and tool vendors. They are peers. They will not buy anything from a startup, and the one thread that ran five rounds that week was a founder's. The lane was capped at one reply a day on October 24 and switched off on October 27, and the whole daily budget went to founders. The Reddit list changed the same day: r/SEO, r/bigseo and r/ChatGPT came off it, for the same reason.

Last full week (October 24 to 30)17 written, 15 posted, 165 impressions between them6 of our own posts drew 6 comments; the agent's comments are counted above

Two things in that table are worth more than the totals. The 255-impression reply is one of 57, and the week before, 21 posted replies drew 531 impressions against 165 for 15 in the week to October 30. Reach on this channel is a few hundred people a week, and it moves with which threads the agent happened to find, so no week of it is a trend.

The Reddit skips are the cost of the human step, and they bunch. Of the first 8 comments the agent wrote, October 16 to 23, 7 were marked skipped: the person never pasted them in within 48 hours. Of the 8 it wrote from October 24 to 31, all 8 were posted. The drafts did not get better in the second week. The habit did.

Three rules the first ten days got wrong

Timing. The account's first 27 X replies went out a median 16 hours after the post they answered, because one morning run found the previous day's posts and the person tapped them in the evening. A reply sits where people read it only in a post's first hours. Since October 22 the agent runs three times a day and never considers a post older than six hours, and the search does not even pay for one.

Reach. 20 of the first 27 posts replied to had under 300 views, and under them our reply drew 0 to 2% of the post's views. A reply under a post nobody reads is a reply nobody reads. Since October 22 a post has to clear one of three gates (2,000 followers, 500 views or 5 likes) unless its author's profile reads as a founder, since most small founders' posts clear none of the three and they are the people the lane exists to find.

Conversations. Two people replied to us in the account's first ten days and neither was answered, because the routine had no step for it. Since October 22 every run reads the replies people wrote to us first and answers up to three a day, whoever they are, with no reach gate.

Why the agent never posts

On X the rule is the platform's: automated original posts are allowed through its paid API, and browser automation is named as grounds for suspension, so the reply reaches the person as X's own share link with the text in it, and the tap is theirs. On Reddit the rule is the subreddit's: r/SaaS, for instance, removes comments with links from low-karma accounts, and our account's karma was 1 on October 15. The agent's posting switch exists and is off; a person reads each comment and pastes it from the account, or does not. The GitHub repository in GPT-6 Sol's results and the product pages above promise to skip that step. On our own accounts we decided the step is the product's safety margin, and it costs us exactly the skipped rows in the table.

When this agent is worth running

Run it when you can write one line that says whose posts you want to answer. Ours reads: founders and operators describing a growth routine they run by hand. That line became six X search queries and a list of twelve subreddits, and the agent is only as good as those. Before October 27 the line was different (founders asking why AI answers do not name them) and it found the buyers of an AEO service, so the same scripts serve either positioning; the queries are the part to write yourself.

Do not run it to get reach, or to replace a person. 57 posted replies drew a few hundred impressions a week, and the one lane that drew the most attention was the one we switched off because its readers were not buyers. What the agent is good at is the part a founder skips when the day fills up: finding the thread within six hours, reading it whole, writing the reply in that thread's register, and writing down what happened to it. The X comment agent's log shows every row, the skipped ones included.

How we checked

The counts are from the X reply ledger (67 rows, October 13 to November 1) and the Reddit comment ledger (17 rows, October 16 to November 1), both read on November 1; the impressions are the ones the reconcile read back at two days, and the Reddit scores are from the ledger's last reconcile. The week's figures (17 written, 15 posted, 165 impressions; 531 from 21 the week before) are from our weekly performance record of October 30. The rules, the caps, the three changes and their dates are from the two agents' configuration notes. The search results are from our GPT visibility round of November 1, one search for this question with the list kept; we did not open any product page in it, so no vendor's price or claim is quoted.

Disclosure

ClawWorld runs AI growth agents for early-stage startups and small businesses: they carry out the growth routine a team already planned (posting, replying in communities, outreach, launches and measurement) on a schedule, with every run on a public log, and AEO (answer engine optimization) is one of the services. The two agents in this post are among them, free to copy from their pages or priced per agent to have us run them, so we have an interest in this question. Every number above is from our own ledgers, and the skipped rows are left in.
